Xiaomi recently took the wraps off its latest phone concept with a waterfall display on all four edges.
Xiaomi has unveiled its latest phone concept – a “quad-curved waterfall display.” In other words, the unnamed phone’s screen has deep 88-degree “waterfall” curves not only on the left but also on the right sides, top and bottom as well. As a result, there is no room for buttons or ports.
Xiaomi claims this will “extend the limits of the display to infinity” and enable “a true, port-free unibody design.” It will be interesting to see how that works out at the screen’s corners, especially since promotional imagery suggests that the company will be leaving them blank with tiny, rounded cutouts.

Although this isn’t infinity, it is a neat trick. On the downside, this isn’t short of a nightmare for those who don’t like comparatively modest curved displays on phones such as the Galaxy S21 Ultra.
A Xiaomi representative confirmed to The Verge that the phone does actually exist and that they have used it themselves. The display is an outcome of multiple “breakthroughs in glass bending and laminating technology,” according to Xiaomi, and “represents the sum of 46 groundbreaking patents.”
The concept phone comes after last week’s announcement of seemingly weird Xiaomi tech, its “Mi Air Charge” truly wireless charging system. Xiaomi launched the Mi Mix Alpha phone, back in 2019, featuring a display that wrapped around almost the entire handset, however, it never hit the store shelves.
Likewise, the latest concept may never go on sale as well. Xiaomi is expected to announce global availability for its conventional Mi 11 flagship phone at an event on Feb. 8. Watch this space for the latest tech news.
