The $250K Twitch Rivals Doritos Bowl Warzone event encountered a major problem on Thursday with alleged cheaters been disqualified from the competition just before the closing round.

Touted as one of the biggest Warzone events to date, it paved the way for what can be described as the biggest cheating scandals to date. During the five-rounds of private lobby action, several Warzone’s veteran competitors blamed players for cheating in the tournament.

In light of these serious allegations, the trio of Unifyz, kyrptic_j0ker, and METZY_B, were disqualified from the competition. This ban was implemented ahead of the fifth and final match of the day. “Based on the evidence submitted from various sources in and out of the tournament, [Twitch has] determined that [their] gameplay was unnatural beyond a reasonable doubt,” event host Caleb ‘WavePunk’ Simmons said.

Following their disqualification, Twitch moved forward with the event, rather than opting to restarting or replaying on a different date. The fifth map, however, continued with one less team. Following the fourth round of action, accusations began piling up after players noticed some very sharp aim coming particularly from METZY_B.

Resident Warzone investigator Tommey began to dissect the footage without wasting a lot of time. It was an unusual auto-aim that caught his attention, as the suspected cheater immediately “locked on” to an opposing player in the clip. The winning team would take home $45,000, and even a team in a last-place finish would have received $1,200.

Twitch soon confirmed that METZY_B and his team were “ineligible for prizing.” “Unfortunately without anti-cheat, authentic Warzone tournaments just aren’t possible anymore,” NICKMERCS said. “There’s too much cheese & way too many rats. ”Can’t take competitive Warzone seriously anymore,” Rivals player Kalei added.

Despite using Warzone’s custom game feature, which restricts random players to join the lobby, cheaters still made their way into the game’s biggest tournament thus far. Champions were crowned and the $250K prize pool was distributed accordingly. Watch this space for the latest e-sports news.
