Is Competitive Call of Duty drama good for the scene? Matthew ‘FormaL’ Piper and OpTic Chicago’s Seth ‘Scump’ Abner made a notable contribution to the argument, which has returned in full swing lately.
When some of the biggest names in Call of Duty go toe-to-toe on social media, things are understandably likely to get heated. Former commentators, franchise owners, and others grace the latest batch of drama, which saw almost everyone putting in their two pennyworths.
Aside from serving as some entertainment for fans, did the drama actually leave a good impression for the Call of Duty League? Two of the most experienced players, Scump and FormaL weighed in during the OpTic pre-show on Mar. 4.
Scump suggests it is both “good and bad” for the scene“ since it makes them look like idiots, but “it also makes for more storylines.” Members of 100 Thieves went blow for blow with Dallas Empire’s CEO Mike ‘Hastr0’ Rufail, grabbing the attention of everyone in the League.

The T2P duo suggests this strife created a more intriguing storyline. “It’s good for the storylines,” Scump said. “It definitely makes it a little more hype in certain matchups. Now, whenever Dallas and [LA Thieves] play, everyone’s gonna be loving that.”
FormaL, who is no stranger to trash-talking, recently argued that anyone offended is simply “soft.” However, if the teams are going at it anyway, he suggests the beef should start in a genuine way.
“I like when it comes more naturally,” the former world champion said. The latest drama might have been too artificial to do the scene any favors, according to FormaL. “Hastr0 kind of went in for no reason.”
The drama definitely adds some intrigue to future matchups. We may have to wait to see the payoff surrounding another LA Thieves and Dallas Empire showdown, though the two overwhelming forces are likely to meet up in the current tournament.
Following their 3-0 win over the Subliners, OpTic is slated to meet Empire in Round 2 of the Major. Watch this space for all the CDL action.
