Qualcomm unveiled its latest flagship processor dubbed the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 during the company’s annual Snapdragon Tech Summit.
For those unaware, Qualcomm started using a “gen” naming scheme in 2021. The company describes the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 as a new premium standard for connected computing.”
The processor adopts a new FastConnect 7800 Mobile Connectivity System which integrates WiFi 7. This will be the first time this system has been used in a mobile phone processor.
Aside from this, it has peak WiFi speeds of 5.8Gbps. It has Dual Bluetooth and high band simultaneous multi-link as well. Furthermore, this octa-core processor integrates a Kryo CPU.
However, the new processor uses a single “Prime” CPU core that clocks at up to 3.2GHz. Aside from this, there are four “Performance” cores clocking at up to 2.8GHz.
Lastly, there are three “efficiency” cores clocked at up to 2GHz. Moreover, the chipset uses Snapdragon Secure to protect users’ data and privacy.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Coming To Smartphones
According to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset will be available by the end of 2022. However, the company did not mention Samsung as one of the brands working with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
Still, some reports suggest the upcoming Galaxy S23 series smartphones will pack the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. Qualcomm confirmed the following brands will launch handsets with its latest processor under the hood.
