Mark Zuckerberg: Facebook is introducing a new set of steps in a bid to protect the November election, amid reports of foreign interference and disinformation about mail-in voting from Donald Trump and his aides.
Among other things, the social media giant will be removing posts with “clear misinformation” about the coronavirus pandemic, voting, adding links to authoritative information instead. Facebook will no longer accept political ads the week before the election and collaborate with Reuters to add a label directing users to official election results in the event that a candidate declares victory ahead of final results.
“I think it’s important that we start preparing people now,” founder Mark Zuckerberg told “CBS This Morning” co-host Gayle King. “There’s nothing illegitimate about taking a few extra days, or even weeks, in order to make sure that all the votes get counted. In fact, it would be illegitimate if we didn’t make sure that all of the valid votes were counted.”
