Huawei’s Foldable Mate X2 To Launch On Feb. 22

Earlier speculations indicated that Huawei is gearing up to spin off its consumer business, but the company is still moving forward with a new flagship phone with a foldable design.

If Huawei’s official Weibo‘s account is anything to go by, the Chinese brand’s next foldable phone will come carrying the Mate X2 moniker. Moreover, it will be unveiled on Feb. 22nd.

The teaser image shows this time the flexible display will fold inwards, as opposed to the Mate X and the Mate Xs, which sport outward-facing foldable screens. Considering that Huawei once discontinued prototype designs similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Fold and its successor, it is interesting to see the Chinese brand is going in for a 180 for its new foldable.

Official details are still scarce. Huawei Consumer Business Group CEO Richard Yu said he has been using a Mate X2 “for some time,” and that it’s “full of surprises.” It remains to be seen how many units will Yu and his team be able to ship amid the severe shortage of the company’s own flagship mobile processors.

More importantly, it is unclear if Huawei will have enough units to sell outside of China, but it appears that we will need to wait a few weeks to find out. Watch this space for the latest tech and business news.
