How PlayStation 5 Game Sharing Feature Works [Video]

The PlayStation 4’s game sharing feature, “Primary PS4” helped gamers play one title without having to buy multiple copies.

Sony has revealed that the PlayStation 5 will retain this feature as players transition over to it, just with a different name. The feature has been updated so that it becomes easier to use on PS5.

Primary PS4 allows owners to set up one PS4 as their primary home console. Doing this allows anyone that uses the Primary PS4 to access its entire library of media and video games , even if they log into it using a different account.

On the PlayStation 5, this feature will be called “Console Sharing and Offline Play”. It will offer the same service as Primary PS4, allowing multiple users to access one account’s digital content, even if the console isn’t connected to the internet.

According to Stevivor, only one PS5 can have Console Sharing enabled at any one time however the feature can be toggled on or off when the owner desires. Players need to do the following to access this feature:

  • Go to Settings
  • Users and Accounts > Other
  • Select Console Sharing and Offline Play
  • Choose Disable or Don’t Disable.

PlayStation 5’s will automatically have Console Sharing and Offline Play enabled, but owners can choose to toggle that on and off. Sony has also made it so that Console Sharing won’t interfere with the Primary PlayStation 4, so anyone planning to play with both consoles using the same account can do so without the worry of having to always toggle the feature.

Regrettably, Xbox Series X users won’t get this feature. Two Xbox One consoles can both access an Xbox Live account simultaneously, but attempting to log in with a Series X will kick the other consoles out.

PS5 releases on November 12, 2020. Watch this space for the latest gaming news!
