Interestingly, the Canadian singer’s support came shortly after a bombshell NBC News interview with Wilson was published Thursday evening. Wilson accused Musk of being a cruel and absent father in the interview.Β “He was cold,” Wilson said of her father. He’s very quick to anger, uncaring, and narcissistic,” she said.
Grimes Rallies Behind Vivian Jenna Wilson
In the NBC interview, 20-year-old Wilson condemned Musk for his anti-trans remarks earlier this week. Musk had posted several claims about Wilson on X, including denying her gender identity.
“I think he was under the assumption that I wasn’t going to say anything and I would just let this go unchallenged,” Wilson told NBC. “Which I’m not going to do, because if you’re going to lie about me, like, blatantly to an audience of millions, I’m not just going to let that slide.”

In contrast to Grimes’ use of the name Vivian in her supportive statement, Musk used Wilson’s deadname in his social media post. Wilson is among the 12 children Musk shares with three women: his ex-wife Justine Musk, singer Grimes, and Neuralink executive Shivon Zilis.
Social Media Erupts Over Grimes’ Support for Wilson
However, one X user criticized Grimes for supporting Wilson, arguing that while human creativity is commendable, tampering with God’s creation, such as altering DNA, is unacceptable. Grimes countered this by asserting that God granted humanity hands to build great structures and explore space, suggesting that using creativity is inherently divine.
God gave us hands to build cathedrals, rockets to the moon. It’s clearly divine to make use of gods greatest gift to humanity, which is creativity.

Another user disagreed, stating that altering the body’s natural design is not creative and could lead to eventual harm. They argued that humans should not interfere with God’s perfect creation.
To defuse the situation, Grimes, who is not Christian, expressed respect for the Christian faith and its followers. Also, she explained that her worldview differs, citing her personal choices, like body modifications, as examples.
I am not Christian but I respect ur Christian God and have Christian friends and sometimes join them for their holidays or heed their teachings. But I do not hold this world view, and I too enjoy changing my body with tattoos and stuff. But if we’re made in gods image, and heβ¦

However, she argued that if humans were created in Godβs image with the ability to change, such alterations could also be considered divine. She defined God as the limitless universe full of infinite potential.
A High-Stakes Public Spectacle
The public discourse surrounding Musk’s daughter, Vivian Jenna Wilson, and her transition has ignited a fervent debate. While Grimes, as a mother, offers unwavering support, Muskβs public stance has been a stark contrast.
Notably, the exchange on X highlights the stark differences in perspective on gender identity and the role of technology and human intervention in shaping one’s identity. Only time will tell how this public feud impacts the larger conversation about transgender issues.
