Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro First in Line for TSMC’s 2nm Chips

Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro series may be the first to use 2nm chips, beating Samsung’s Galaxy phones. Scheduled for mass production by 2025, TSMC’s 2nm fabrication process (N2) was first announced in 2022.

Soon after TSMC’s announcement, reports suggested the Pro series would be the first to use a chipset built with TSMC’s 2nm process. However, there haven’t been any further updates on this until now.

Digitimes reports that TSMC is nearing the launch of its 2nm fabrication process (N2), targeting mass production by 2025. Significantly, the company also plans to begin small-scale production of N2 chips later this year.

This could position Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro series as the first device with processors built using TSMC’s N2 technology.

Samsung Foundry also aims to produce a 2nm chip by 2025 with their SF2 process. This technology is reportedly targeted for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 and potentially Samsung’s Exynos flagship for the same year.

However, due to the earlier release of the iPhone 17 series compared to the Galaxy S26 series, Apple appears poised to win the first-to-market race for 2nm smartphones.
